Coronavirus Update

FACILITY AND PARKS UPDATE: MARCH 27

The Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Park System of 11 Parks is currently OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. As the weather turns nice, our community is going to want to go out to our playgrounds and get some fresh air. As of today, our parks and playgrounds are currently open, and we want them to remain open however, if the CDC's recommendations are not followed we will be forced to close them.

To keep our parks open, it is imperative that you follow the CDC's recommendations:

- Practice at least 6 feet of social distancing at all times

- Do not use the parks if you or your family members are exhibiting symptoms

- Wash and sanitize hands prior to, during, and after visiting our parks

- Be prepared to not have access to public restrooms and water fountains

- Do not congregate in groups of 10 or more

If others are currently using the playground or other park amenities when you arrive, choose a different activity within the park. If groups of 10 or more are congregating in one place or if social distancing is not practiced we will ask you to discontinue your activity.

It is everyone's responsibility to practice the above recommendations so that we can keep the parks, open spaces, and trails open to everyone.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE: MARCH 25

Dear College Park Fitness Center Members,

We hope you are all staying healthy and active during this time away from normal routines and activities. We appreciate the continued support we have received for our efforts to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 virus on our community. To this regard, the College Park Fitness Center will remain closed until state and local authorities deem it safe to reopen.

Starting April 1, we will put all current memberships on hold:

Paid in Full Members – Your membership will be extended for the total number of days we are closed.

Monthly Paid Members – Your monthly membership payment will be suspended until we are able to fully open the facility for your use.

Additional Options - If you would like to continue your monthly payment in support of Parks and our ability to maintain the facility and limited staffing while we are closed, please contact us at wccpr.apm@gmail.com and we will be happy to assist you in resuming those payments.

We know this is a difficult time for trying to stay active! Our fitness instructors have all been very gracious in posting workouts and live videos of their classes on our Community Facebook Page. Please join us there to keep up with our daily posts and positive support! https://www.facebook.com/groups/2015133995204994/

For regular updates on the status of our facility, please stay tuned to our newly designed website: www.winchesterparksandrec.org

Stay safe and be well,

Your Dedicated WCCPR Staff

FACILITY STATUS UPDATE: MARCH 13

To the patrons of our College Park fitness facility,

In accordance with CDC recommendations and consultation with our local health authorities, we have made the decision to close our facility for a minimum of two weeks and to cancel or postpone all scheduled classes and programs. While this decision may seem extreme, the reality is that College Park Gym draws from all segments of our community – the very young to the elderly as well as those who are healthy and those who are battling chronic conditions who visit our facility for their physical and social well-being. Our purpose is to provide healthy activities and a safe environment for everyone. As such, staying open and continuing business, as usual, would ultimately undermine our mission to make our community healthy and active.

In the meantime, we are taking this opportunity to complete our annual shut down activities. As you know and indicated in our membership information our facility shuts down for deep cleaning and painting every August. We will use the next two weeks to complete most of those activities so there will be little disruption of services later this summer.

What does that mean moving forward?
• Our facility will close tonight at 9 PM and remain closed for a minimum of two weeks (March 30).

• All fitness classes, programs, and activities are canceled.

• We will continue to communicate with local officials regarding when it is appropriate to reopen our facility, resume programs and activities, and at what level and will post updates as we have them.

For those registered for programs, activities, and rentals:
• We will be contacting all those registered for programs with updates and projected plans.

We thank you for your understanding and we encourage you to continue to stay active! Get outside, breathe deeply and enjoy the beauty around you. Take a walk, play catch or a round of disc golf with your kids or visit one of our Parks! While our facility might be closed, the outdoors are open and the fresh air will do us all some good! Get outside but please don’t do it in large groups, stay home if you aren’t feeling well, and please wash your hands!

We are living in unprecedented times and the health and safety of our community is the only thing that ultimately matters. When we look back at this time years from now, we’ll be proud of the fact that we followed the recommendations of those who are in the trenches and that we put our community first.

Sincerely,
Your Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Staff
