COLLEGE PARK FITNESS CENTER REOPENING UPDATE: MAY 24th
The WCCPR team is hard at work preparing for our re-opening on June 1st! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at College Park Fitness Center. However, returning to the facility will look and feel different for some period-of-time. Bear in mind, these guidelines are subject to change based on recommendations from government health officials. We ask that you show patience and kindness to your fellow members and our dedicated staff during this re-opening period. We are all having to navigate these changes.
PREPARATION FOR RE-OPENING: As we prepare for our reopening on June 1, we want you to know that our number one priority is your safety. Steps we are taking include:
Rigorous disinfecting of facilities, prior to opening and each day upon closing,
Training of our staff on new mandated cleaning protocols,
Sanitation stations for equipment wipe downs before/after usage.
PHASED-IN RE-OPENING PLANS: Your visits to the facility upon reopening will also be different for some time due to health and safety and government protocols. Some of these include:
Smaller numbers of members allowed in the facilities and pools during our reduced operating hours,
Social distancing measures in the facility, and in-and-around equipment and workout stations,
Staff members will be wearing face masks and patrons will be asked to wear masks in common areas and wherever possible,
There will be no common areas available for gathering,
Locker rooms will be closed, lobby restrooms and family restrooms will be open, no shower service will be allowed,
No child watch will be available,
Phased-in group exercises classes. Upon reopening, we will not offer group exercise classes. We are working on a very cautious, careful re-opening and have determined that we will need to focus our initial opening on implementing the new check-in and social distancing procedures. We will re-evaluate group exercise classes during this time and will work on phasing-in those classes as safely as possible.
As the COVID-19 rules and regulations evolve, we will update members via email, social media, and on our website. You will find the most up-to-date information here about reopening. Examples might include updated facility information, group exercise, reopening of the pools and aquatic classes, youth sports, and other programming. Please be patient as we reopen, we too are eager to reengage and reconnect, but only when it is safe to do so.

FACILITY AND PARKS UPDATE: MARCH 27
The Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Park System of 11 Parks is currently OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. As the weather turns nice, our community is going to want to go out to our playgrounds and get some fresh air. As of today, our parks and playgrounds are currently open, and we want them to remain open however, if the CDC's recommendations are not followed we will be forced to close them.
To keep our parks open, it is imperative that you follow the CDC's recommendations:
- Practice at least 6 feet of social distancing at all times
- Do not use the parks if you or your family members are exhibiting symptoms
- Wash and sanitize hands prior to, during, and after visiting our parks
- Be prepared to not have access to public restrooms and water fountains
- Do not congregate in groups of 10 or more
If others are currently using the playground or other park amenities when you arrive, choose a different activity within the park. If groups of 10 or more are congregating in one place or if social distancing is not practiced we will ask you to discontinue your activity.
It is everyone's responsibility to practice the above recommendations so that we can keep the parks, open spaces, and trails open to everyone.

FACILITY STATUS UPDATE: MARCH 13
To the patrons of our College Park fitness facility,
In accordance with CDC recommendations and consultation with our local health authorities, we have made the decision to close our facility for a minimum of two weeks and to cancel or postpone all scheduled classes and programs. While this decision may seem extreme, the reality is that College Park Gym draws from all segments of our community – the very young to the elderly as well as those who are healthy and those who are battling chronic conditions who visit our facility for their physical and social well-being. Our purpose is to provide healthy activities and a safe environment for everyone. As such, staying open and continuing business, as usual, would ultimately undermine our mission to make our community healthy and active.
In the meantime, we are taking this opportunity to complete our annual shut down activities. As you know and indicated in our membership information our facility shuts down for deep cleaning and painting every August. We will use the next two weeks to complete most of those activities so there will be little disruption of services later this summer.
What does that mean moving forward?
• Our facility will close tonight at 9 PM and remain closed for a minimum of two weeks (March 30).
• All fitness classes, programs, and activities are canceled.
• We will continue to communicate with local officials regarding when it is appropriate to reopen our facility, resume programs and activities, and at what level and will post updates as we have them.
For those registered for programs, activities, and rentals:
• We will be contacting all those registered for programs with updates and projected plans.
We thank you for your understanding and we encourage you to continue to stay active! Get outside, breathe deeply and enjoy the beauty around you. Take a walk, play catch or a round of disc golf with your kids or visit one of our Parks! While our facility might be closed, the outdoors are open and the fresh air will do us all some good! Get outside but please don’t do it in large groups, stay home if you aren’t feeling well, and please wash your hands!
We are living in unprecedented times and the health and safety of our community is the only thing that ultimately matters. When we look back at this time years from now, we’ll be proud of the fact that we followed the recommendations of those who are in the trenches and that we put our community first.
Your Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Staff
